The pictures were taken at the 99th six-day track cycling race 2010 in Berlin. Initially, individuals competed alone, deciding for themselves wether to ride or to rest. The winner was the rider who completed the most laps. However, the format was changed to allow teams (usually of two riders each), one rider racing while the other rested. Up to the 1960's the races were on for 24 hours a day. This regime has also been relaxed, so that today's events focus on the more popular evening hours.
