Nationalpark Berchtesgaden
The pictures were taken in the 'Nationalpark Berchtes-gaden', Bavaria, Germany and on the adjacent karst plateau 'Steinernes Meer' which belongs partly to the national park and partly to Salzburg, Austria.
Due to the unique situation of trapped cold air, the lake 'Funtensee' is known for its record low temperatures. Despite moderate ambient temperatures, the grass surrounding the lake is covered with hoarfrost, adding a surreal touch to the scenery.
The Schönfeldspitze (2653 m) is the most distinctive and best known peak rising from the Steinernes Meer plateau. The pictures were taken with a Zenza Bronica GS1 medium format film camera in early October, just before the first snow.
